A series finale of “Rizzoli and Isles” will premiere on Monday, marking the conclusion of the show’s seven seasons. Star Sasha Alexander has described the finale as “emotional yet hopeful.”
Joining Angie Harmon on the show for seven years, Alexander expressed a range of emotions in an interview with Stuart Brazell of TheWrap’s “Drinking With the Stars.” “On one hand, I’m proud of all the work we accomplished together over the years, but on the other, I’m ready to move on.”
“The finale is going to be sad,” Alexander vowed, reprising her role as Maura Isles, the perceptive medical examiner who worked side by side with Jane Rizzoli (Harmony), the Boston homicide investigator. “It will be hopeful and heartbreaking at the same time. As a result of the happy endings for everyone involved, it’s uplifting in many ways.
Alexander said that she has retained a few things from the set, including clothes, a tea table, and a photo depicting women performing autopsies in the early 1900s from Maura’s office.
“Something has been sitting in that office for years, and it made an impression on me the first time I saw it,” she explained. “As I was departing, I simply felt that personified the character for me.”
“I’ll find a place for it, I promise. It’s not going in the kids’ room.” she laughed.
