Is 2023 the year for NCIS fans to get the big moment they’ve been waiting for? Michael Weatherly, who last appeared on the CBS drama as Special Agent Anthony DiNozzo in the Season 13 finale in 2016, certainly hinted at the possibility. “This could be an interesting year for such’moments,’” he tweeted in response to a fan who said, “We all would rather look at you and Ziva reuniting and enjoying that moment” in response to his New Year’s video. When TV Insider spoke with executive producer Steven D. Binder last spring, he was excited about Weatherly’s return. “I would absolutely love to do something like that,” Binder stated. “That will be determined by Michael Weatherly. He and I had talked about it over the years, and he was always on Bull, and [since] he was on Bull, it just seemed strange and not right.” “The last conversation I had with him was that he’s going to take some time off and rest because he went from a very difficult schedule on NCIS to headlining his own show for six years, through C0V1D,” he added. It’s just a matter of whether it works out.” Tony had just found out that he and Ziva David (Cote de Pablo), who was thought to be d3ad at the time, had a daughter when he left the team. Ziva then reappeared in the Season 16 finale, this time in the basement of Leroy Jethro Gibbs (Mark Harmon). She left off-screen to reunite with Tony and their daughter in Paris at the end of her four-episode return in Season 17. (As it turned out, they’d been in contact since her “d3ath.”)
Tony’s father, DiNozzo Senior (Robert Wagner), wrote to the team later in Season 17 that he was in Paris with the family. “Apparently, NCIS has made him the ‘happiest pop-pop’ ever by reuniting Ziva with Tony and Tali,” Dr. Jimmy Palmer (Brian Dietzen) revealed. With that in mind, and Weatherly hinting at the possibility of seeing Tony and Ziva together onscreen rather than just hearing about their lives, we’ve compiled a list of things we’d like to see if that happened. Scroll down to find out more. Tony and Ziva’s relationship It’s something we’ll never see! “Tiva” had been teased for a long time prior to de Pablo’s departure as a series regular. They (finally) kissed onscreen for the first time in that episode. Now, we’re not saying that NCIS should suddenly become a different show because romance has never been a big part of it, but it would be nice to see the two together in a way we’ve only heard about. A new Gibbs update! Gibbs remained in Alaska in Season 19’s final episode, and he has been mentioned since. But it would be interesting to hear about him from the man who worked with him from the beginning (the JAG backdoor pilot episodes!). We can’t believe Tony and Ziva haven’t heard from Gibbs since then. Given what he means to both of them, something needs to be said, even if it’s just that a phone call was made.
Tali, Tony, and Ziva The team watched a video of Tali when Ziva made an appearance in Season 17 and we saw Tony with Tali when he left. Additionally, we are aware that the three have remained as a unit ever since. Another thing, though, we haven’t seen on screen yet. Working on a case with the group First and foremost, we’d like to see Tony and Ziva’s reaction to McGee (Sean Murray) as a senior field agent who turned down the position of boss, as well as hear them mention how far he’s come because, despite everyone around him on a regular basis, only Palmer — and, to a lesser extent, Director Leon Vance (Rocky Carroll) — saw him as a rookie. Plus, even if they’re only supposed to be “consulting” for some reason, it just wouldn’t be right to have them both around and not solving a cr1me (which is really them doing their jobs like they used to). And we’ll have to wait and see what they think of Alden Parker (Gary Cole), the new leader! Tony and Torres’ feud is entertaining, as is the rematch between Ziva and Torres. There has to be some sort of conflict between Tony and Torres (Wilmer Valderrama) when they meet for the first time. Furthermore, Ziva and Torres discussed rematching their fight.
Tiva’s life in Paris in detail What exactly have they been up to? What do they do for a living? Is there a weekly date night? Let’s hear about the little things they didn’t get to do while working for NCIS in Washington, D.C. At the very least, there is talk of going to see the twins at McGee’s. It would be fantastic if we could see Tony, Ziva, McGee, and Delilah (Margo Harshman) at the dinner table, with Tali and the twins in the background… But, if we can’t, let the episode end with that as the plan before Tony and Ziva leave D.C. At least a few references to previous episodes Let’s talk about the time they went undercover (in Season 3’s appropriately titled “Under Covers”). Let’s see how Tony reacts to the fact that he has the plague (from Season 2’s “SWAK”). We don’t need a reference for every scene, but five or six would be ideal.
