Mark Harmon, after his departure from NCIS in Season 19, is returning to his roots in a unique way. Teaming up with NCIS technical advisor Leon Carrol Jr., they are co-authoring a non-fiction book titled “Ghosts of Honolulu: A Japanese Spy, A Japanese American Spy Hunter, and the Untold Story of Pearl Harbor.” The book is set to be released on November 14 by Harper Select.
The narrative revolves around Japanese American agent Douglas Wade and Japanese spy Takeo Yoshikawa, presenting their contrasting perspectives. The authors delved into historical records to enhance the authenticity of the storytelling. Wade, the lone Japanese American agent in naval intelligence, contrasted with Yoshikawa, who was tasked with gathering intelligence from the U.S. fleet stationed at Pearl Harbor.
Mark Harmon expressed a deep sense of duty in unveiling the genuine history that gave rise to NCIS (Naval Criminal Investigative Service). He recalled the scarcity of information available during the show’s early days and highlighted the often unknown and underappreciated sacrifices made by NCIS agents, making it all the more significant to share their stories through this endeavor.
